STOP COMPARING YOURSELF TO OTHERS!! An excellent interview with Julie May Author of “Menu Musings”

Have you ever had “one of those days”?? You know those days, where everything goes right for your best friend and nothing goes right for you? Or your car gets a flat tire? In my case, the hood of my car starts flapping as I’m going 70 mph down the interstate, on a bridge, crossing the bay. (Which is a large body of water) AHHHHHHH!!! You know exactly what I mean.
There are many things that stood out to me, while interviewing Julie May. And one of the first things that really hit home was to “Stop comparing yourself to others”. She said she battled the thought “ I’m not good enough” and DECIDED she no longer wanted to think that way. It was the fact that she wasn’t an expert photographer or even a chef that people fell in love with her. She was real, a mom who just happened to love cooking. Julie lived her passion and that’s when her success started. I find this true for myself as well. I decided to live my passion last August. And I haven’t regretted it since. If you haven’t noticed, my passion is HELPING PEOPLE. My parents have both influenced this and I believe it’s a God given passion.

Many times I wished life were easier. Many times I wished I had what so and so had…. But in reality, I had to stop and reflect and ask myself why? I had to become okay with the way God made me. I had to “stop comparing myself to others.” I had to stop believing the lie I’m not good enough. And that’s exactly what Julie had to do and encourages everyone to do as well.

It is my hope that every person reading this will take the first step, which is the hardest step and that is to Believe you are good enough. What are you telling yourself?? I believe it’s easy to say, I’m an introvert so that’s why I don’t do things like that. AHHHHHHHHH!!! Again. That’s an excuse. WE ARE ALL WONDEFULLY MADE!!! What is it that you are afraid of???

Now another thing that I absolutely love about Julie, is how she mentioned, we need to have balance in our lives. She emphasizes that everything needs balance, “Even moderation needs to be done in moderation.” Some of you may be thinking, “What does that even mean?” Well…. If you think about it, if we continually focus on moderation, I believe we won’t experience some of the greatest joys in life. However, the word balance is key for me. I guess we all need to define our terms. What does moderation mean to you? I have found that when I don’t write down my schedule, even though I know what my schedule is like the next day, I can get caught up in just THINKING about taking action instead of TAKING action. Then I start punishing myself at the end of the day for not completing the tasks at hand. Writing down the schedule is very important for me. And when this happens, there is balance in my life. (At least there is inner peace)

Oh the joys of balance. I’m a mom, who often struggles with my kids not obeying and yes, they even talk back. Sometimes I just want to lock myself in the bathroom. But when I know that other women struggle just like me and are STILL Successful, you better believe I’m going to listen to their advice. When I hear “Stop comparing yourself to others.” And “Stop telling yourself you’re not good enough”. I’m going to find out how to do just that. For me that requires, positive input, which includes scripture reading, affirmations and uplifting music. Actually these are just a few things I do. Again, it’s all about balance.

I hope you get a chance to listen to Julie’s episode. There’s so much more to her than her cookbook. Which, by the way, you can purchase at or visit her blog at With the world’s most interactive cookbook, you will want to join in on the action with her QR codes that comes with every recipe. Julie even gives you substitutions too.

My dear sweet readers, know that you are not alone. You are worthy. You are good enough. Tell yourself, “I Can DO IT!! By the way, that’s Julie’s mantra. If you don’t have one, use it.

God has created us all for a purpose. Live your passion. Live out loud. Live Life in Purple.

Stop the negative chatter in your head because you are listening and so are your kids and others around you are too…

Love to you all.
