On our show this week, we had World renowned Thought leader, Author, Speaker, Entrepreneur and Business Coach.  He certainly isn’t a stranger to Social Media paving the way for positive thinking and successful living.  Steven Aitchison has dedicated over 20 years of his life to helping people succeed.  He has written several books about the mind, boosting your energy, Making friends and even about ideas for your blog. Steven also has several websites that are excellent resources for anyone looking to better themselves.

I wanted to share the SIX lessons I learned from Steven’s interview.  We didn’t even spend an hour together and he offered so much value that I am still in awe.  I hope that you had a chance to listen to his episode, but if not…. then you will definitely want to after reading this blog.


LESSON #1 “Determine to make it”

As I was listening to Steven share his story and how he got his start, the words “Determine to make it” resonated with me right off the bat.  It wasn’t that he chose one job and stuck with it; and I use the words “stuck with it” loosely, but it was the fact that he knew he wanted to help people.  So he tried several jobs that were in the line of helping people.  He studied Psychology, became a nurse, helped the homeless and he also helped people with addictions.  Which then led him to blog about it. It wasn’t that he didn’t have success in the beginning, because he did.  Experience is part of success and that’s exactly what he did.  But he was always, “Determined to make it”.


LESSON #2  “The Biggest obstacle could be your belief system”

When I asked Steven what were some of the obstacle’s he had to overcome, he said, “The biggest obstacle is your belief system about yourself.”  He mentioned that one particular belief he had to overcome was he thought that he wasn’t worthy.  How many people struggle with this one?  I certainly did. It use to overwhelm me.  But he said the resolution to this is to change your beliefs about yourself.  Ask yourself where this belief comes from.  Often times, it could be the environment you grew up in that allowed you to form this negative belief and that’s why “the biggest obstacle you face could be your belief system.”


LESSON #3  “Positive affirmations effect your belief system”

“This is why positive affirmations work,” Steven stated.  Positive affirmations help in stall a new belief about yourself.  The way I understood Steven, is that there will be a battle in your mind for a little while when you start saying them; because, you cannot have two opposing beliefs (cognitive dissonance). When you continue to say the positive affirmations, you then will become them.  THIS IS SO IMPORTANT!! This is exactly why our motto here is “What you say is what you become.”  The battle in your mind is only for a little while.  That’s why I challenge you all to say them. “I am worthy.” “I’m a good husband.” These are two of his affirmations on a daily basis.  Even Steven mentions that saying them out loud was difficult at first.  It’s okay!! You can say them in your mind over and over again, and when you are ready, then you can say them out loud because it adds a different dimension to them.  The more you practice positive affirmations the more your mind will be conditioned to think “Yes, I can”.


LESSON #4 “Rising Early is important”

When you choose to rise early in the morning, even if it’s an hour earlier every day, you can add 7 hours to your week.  Imagine if you got up two hours earlier, then you would add 14 hours extra a week to how much you can get done.  What I loved about this the most, is when Steven explained that meditating for 15 minutes a day can equal to a half hour to 2 hours of sleep.  SEE, there is a resolution to getting up early.  This is where I’m reflecting on PERSPECTIVE.  Most of us have been told that we need up to 8 hours of sleep a night.  So that’s what we believe.  But what if we put this to the test?  I also know that meditating is a form of WILL POWER.  So, regardless of how much you want to sleep, Rising early is important.


LESSON #5  “There are no obstacles”

I’m still going to use the word PERSPECTIVE here.  According to Steven, if you condition your mind to say positive affirmations you become them.  So the moment you think “I can’t do something” the mind is conditioned to overcome it.  When you BELIEVE you can overcome it then you don’t see anything as an obstacle. I’m going to leave this one right here and would love feed back on this.  Which goes right in to Lesson number six.


LESSON #6   “Any situation is temporary”

Steven’s challenge for us, is to look at any situation and say “This is something I need to go through…. I have to learn from this”.  Your mind will automatically give you permission to figure out what you need to do.  When he said this, I had a huge “AHA MOMENT!”  It seems so simple, but for me I needed an action to do instead of just saying “Any situation is temporary’’ or even saying “This too shall pass.” I have heard this statement so many times in particular that it really bothered me, because no one has been able to give me an action step for my mind while I was going through something.  I’ve got to say, PERSPECTIVE is everything.  I think we all need to talk to ourselves more often.  There would be less conflict within our minds.

PERSPECTIVE, LIPTalk Nation!!  I hope that I was able to simplify some action steps that you can take immediately to conquer your old belief system.  AKA: Negative Mindset.
